Welcome to Hazel Class!

There will be two adults working in Hazel Class this year. The class teacher will be Miss Simmons and teaching assistant will be the brilliant Mrs Winkworth. We will work together to support our Year 1 children to learn through a fun, engaging and inspiring curriculum.

We will have:

Monday – Drama and Ballet

Tuesday – Gymnastics

Wednesday – Games

We will send spellings home on a Friday. Please practice these over the week, ready for a spelling test the following Friday.

Please work with your child to complete one homework activity each week (see homework planner attached). We will share our home learning at the end of each term in a class ‘gallery’.

Reading at home with your child has a huge impact on their learning. Please read for 5-10 minutes at least 4 times a week, if not every day. Your child can get a new book to read if they drop it in the book box as they come into the classroom in the morning.

Thank you for your continued support at home!

We will turn ourselves into robots and invent robot songs, dances and movements. We can’t wait for all this robot excitement!

We are very lucky to have Miss Ley working with Year 1 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the next two terms.

KS1 have also introduced a Space Spelling Challenge. Each week we will tot up how many correct spellings each child has achieved in their Friday test. We will then move forward in our ‘Space Chart’, reaching for the goal of 100 correct spellings. We’re looking forward to celebrating the achievements of those that have made great progress in their spelling.

We are learning all about fruit and vegetables and how they grow.  We will investigate what they need to survive and enjoy planting our own.  We will investigate the environment and where different foods come from. We hope to visit a local supermarket or restaurant to see how food ends up on our plates and go behind the scenes to see how bread is made. We will bring this into our Literacy by exploring Oliver’s Vegetables. We will also plant our own seeds to see what exciting foods we can grow.
