Calling all photographers!

Calling all photographers!

Living Streets (the charity who promote us travelling actively to school) have created a Bristol-wide competition during this particularly cold spell!

They would like the children at Stoke Park to take a photograph of something they see on their walk to school that they wouldn’t have spotted if they had gone by car. All entries should be accompanied by a short  statement telling us why you love walking to school (no more than 50 words).

The top 9 photographs chosen within Bristol will win an unlimited family ticked to SS Great Britain (which lasts for a year!)

All entries should be handed to Miss Meek by Friday 3rd February!

*Please ensure that no children feature in the photographs for consent reasons as these entries will be posted to Living Streets.

Going the distance!

A huge congratulations to an enthusiastic group of Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 children who travelled to St Bede’s to compete in a Cross Country event this evening. Despite there being approximately 70-80 children per race, each and every one of them persevered and encouraged each other to complete it to the best of their ability. A special mention to one of our Year 5 pupils who came a fantastic third place, earning them entry to represent North Bristol in the finals on Sunday 20th November! A big well done to all who participated! Go Stoke Park!

Re-launch of the Walk to School project!

The walk to school project run in partnership with Bristol City Council and the Living Streets charity is officially back at Stoke Park as of Monday 17th October!

Lots of children have been asking whether they can continue to earn their active badges this year and after resolving some technical difficulties, I am very excited to announce that it has all been set up for our last week of Term 1!

The theme this year is ‘My Neighbourhood’ and the children can get their first badge if they travel septembers-badgeactively to school this Monday (17th). Walking, scooting, cycling or parking and striding (a combination of parking nearby and walking at least 5 minutes into school) will earn their first beach-themed badge! Miss Meek will be out in the playground from 8.15am on Monday to issue badges to children who travelled in one of the ways listed above.

The excitement of travelling actively does not stop there though! As it is the last week of term, the children will be able to collect October’s badge in just one week! If they travel actively on either Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, they will gain their second (mining-themed) badge!octobers-badge

Please see the attached flyer for further details or speak to Miss Meek if you have any questions!

Volunteers needed!!

We are in the process of reviewing our packed lunch policy for the whole school. Therefore, we are looking for some parent volunteers from each year group, including Reception, to help us with this. We would love your input to make sure that the policy is fair for all children and parents of Stoke Park school.

We will not be asking for much of your time, only a few very short meetings. If you would like to be involved in this, please let the office staff know as soon as possible and we will contact you to make further arrangements.

Thank you in advance for your help and support with this very important policy.

Miss Botting

A Fond Farewell

IMG_3356Thanks everyone for all of your kind wishes and generous gifts today – not to mention the surprise party! It really was a surprise! I don’t know how you kept that one secret! It was lovely to spend some quality time with the children – you’re all fabulous and you’ve given me so many wonderful memories to take away with me. I wish you all a fabulous summer and I’m already planning a return surprise visit of my own!
Best wishes,
Miss Andrews

If you go down to the woods today…

photo 1 photo 3 photo 4photo 2ss IMG_3280 (1) IMG_3276 (1)Stoke Park has a new sculpture trail! Poplar and Oak class have been exploring the Estate and visiting all the sculptures.

Poplar and Oak Class were invited to design woodland sculptures for the Love Lockleaze festival taking place this summer. We walked to Stoke Park woods to gather ideas and inspiration then worked hard on our designs, with the winning ideas crafted into sculptures by Andy O’Neill.

There are some nice walks to be had in the park which you may wish to look at with this info: https://www.bristol.gov.uk/documents/20182/32879/Hermitage+Walk.pdf/5d042f68-e99b-45a0-84a2-23da6bdc3c3e

All of the trees being carved are in the Longwood part of the woods which is marked on the map in the above walk description. The paths can get very wet and muddy so please ensure you wear suitable footwear, and wear the right clothing for the weather.

The trail has been funded by Horfield and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Partnership and Co-Op. It has been supported by Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust

Many Thanks to all of those involved, especially to our parent helpers, who helped make the trip happen.

All the best,

Miss Andrews and Mr Pritchard

Year 1 ballet exam

On Wednesday Hazel Class took part in a ballet exam. We were wearing smart ballet dresses or shorts and tshirts and proper ballet shoes,.They were quite tight to help us point our toes. The girls had a beautiful bun and the boys even had hair gel in too!

We were a bit nervous but we all tried our best, persevered and we were absolutely fabulous ballet dancers. Miss Botting and Mrs Sage were so proud of us.

“I enjoyed the elves and butterflies dance.” Zain

“I liked the bit when we said hello to the examiner.” Alexis

“We were all very good and it was super fun!” Raekwon

We found Peter Pan!

Today Year 1 had a Peter Pan drama workshop. We even met Peter Pan and Captain Hook. We helped to find the treasure that Captain Hook had stolen. We all had so much fun and all joined in with the drama activities.

Sports Day at Stoke Park Schools

IMG_31891 2 IMG_3154 IMG_3165 Yesterday we saw some super athletes compete in the KS2 sports day at Stoke Park Schools. During the morning, the children enjoyed a range of sporty activities that included the standard triple jump, skipping and parachute teamwork games which were well-led and explained by the Y6 leaders.
In the afternoon, the 4 teams competed in a variety of races. Everyone worked really hard in their races and there were high levels of sportsmanship shown by all the children who cheered on their own teams, as well as each others.
Thank you to all the parents and staff who attended and helped us create our sports day and a special thanks to Miss Meek for organising the event.
Well done to the children of Stoke Park Schools!
