Two years ago, we decided all children in KS1 and KS2 should study a structured, formal gymnastic programme so that over time, all children become skilled gymnasts. To deliver the programme, the school has two British Gymnastics Association Coaches, Jade Sheeley and Rachel Short, who are teaching the children the Core Gymnastics Proficiency Awards. These awards start at Level 8 and progress to Level 1. To get to Level 1 (which is very difficult) children have to pass each level. In 2014-15:
Ø 60 children achieved Level 8
Ø 22 children achieved Level 7
Ø 57 children achieved Level 6
Ø 5 children achieved Level 5
We also entered a team in to an inter-school competition and were very successful. The Year 3/4 Team won the regional competition for the 2nd year running! They then went on to the West of England Summer Games finals which took place at Bath University. They executed their routines with precision, confidence and to a very high standard and managed to finish in a very impressive third place with bronze medals.
A bit about our gym coaches….
Jade took part in competitive gymnastics from the age of 4-13 and was ranked 5th in the South West. She regularly took part in local and regional competitions and has been using her expertise to coach our children to regional success.
Rachel has spent the last 7 years coaching children of all ages and has supported our children in becoming fantastic gymnasts.
