Year 5 Science Show at Orchard School

Today, Year 5 visited Orchard School to take part in a Science show called ‘States of Matter’ where they learned the differences between solids, liquids and gases. The children were amazed to see different experiments happen right before their eyes, including freezing a banana using liquid Nitrogen and being able to use this usually-soft piece of fruit as a hammer! Additionally, they learned the scientific names for changing from one state to another: for example, melting, freezing, evaporation (from liquid to gas); condensation (from gas to liquid); sublimation (from solid to gas) and deposition (from gas to liquid). Year 5 would like to say a big Thank You to Orchard School for being able to take part in this fantastic opportunity.
