A Fond Farewell

IMG_3356Thanks everyone for all of your kind wishes and generous gifts today – not to mention the surprise party! It really was a surprise! I don’t know how you kept that one secret! It was lovely to spend some quality time with the children – you’re all fabulous and you’ve given me so many wonderful memories to take away with me. I wish you all a fabulous summer and I’m already planning a return surprise visit of my own!
Best wishes,
Miss Andrews

KS1 trip to watch Julia Donaldson

On the weekend KS1 visited the Bristol Old Vic to watch Julia Donaldson perform in Gruffalos, Ladybirds and Other Beasts. It was great to see Julia Donaldson as we have learnt all about her and her stories this year. It was a brilliant show and we all especially enjoyed her retelling of the Gruffalo, who wasn’t as scary in real life!

Singing sensations

Today we had a special assembly to celebrate all the fantastic singers we have at the school. Children from across the school were allowed to come and sing to the rest of the school. They sang with confidence and charisma and had the audience clapping along and tapping their feet!  We also had a guest appearance from our resident band ‘The Lads’. I wonder if you can spot any familiar faces?

Ballet superstars!

thumbnail_Primary group

On Wednesday 13th July all Year 1 pupils and children from Year 2 and 3 took part in Stoke Park’s firstballet examinations. The children have been practising their ballet exercises and dances since September during their P.E. lessons and in afterschool club, demonstrating commitment and hard work in order to achieve their best. They all wore ballet uniforms and looked impeccable with their hair tidied in buns and plats; they all felt very special! Our examiner travelled from Birmingham, and remarked on how smiley and polite the children were. She was very impressed that pupils have only being doing ballet for a year as they all showed potential; she was also pleased to see so many boys taking part. The ballet dancers at Stoke Park should feel very proud! We await their results from the IDTA Examining board in September.

If you go down to the woods today…

photo 1 photo 3 photo 4photo 2ss IMG_3280 (1) IMG_3276 (1)Stoke Park has a new sculpture trail! Poplar and Oak class have been exploring the Estate and visiting all the sculptures.

Poplar and Oak Class were invited to design woodland sculptures for the Love Lockleaze festival taking place this summer. We walked to Stoke Park woods to gather ideas and inspiration then worked hard on our designs, with the winning ideas crafted into sculptures by Andy O’Neill.

There are some nice walks to be had in the park which you may wish to look at with this info: https://www.bristol.gov.uk/documents/20182/32879/Hermitage+Walk.pdf/5d042f68-e99b-45a0-84a2-23da6bdc3c3e

All of the trees being carved are in the Longwood part of the woods which is marked on the map in the above walk description. The paths can get very wet and muddy so please ensure you wear suitable footwear, and wear the right clothing for the weather.

The trail has been funded by Horfield and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Partnership and Co-Op. It has been supported by Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust

Many Thanks to all of those involved, especially to our parent helpers, who helped make the trip happen.

All the best,

Miss Andrews and Mr Pritchard

Year 1 ballet exam

On Wednesday Hazel Class took part in a ballet exam. We were wearing smart ballet dresses or shorts and tshirts and proper ballet shoes,.They were quite tight to help us point our toes. The girls had a beautiful bun and the boys even had hair gel in too!

We were a bit nervous but we all tried our best, persevered and we were absolutely fabulous ballet dancers. Miss Botting and Mrs Sage were so proud of us.

“I enjoyed the elves and butterflies dance.” Zain

“I liked the bit when we said hello to the examiner.” Alexis

“We were all very good and it was super fun!” Raekwon

What a Wild Place!

Beech and Elm class have just come back from a very exciting but ever-so-tiring school trip to the Wild Place!  We had a peek at some really interesting animals including Okapi from middle Africa and reindeer, we got up close and personal with a variety of different lemar’s and we got lost in the butterfly maze!

We also all met Kelly and Tanya some volunteers at the Wild Place.  We learnt about plants and how they’re so important to helping us stay alive by generating the oxygen we need to breath. We even got to look closely at their different parts under a microscope.  Then, we planted our own seeds, I wonder if you chose Barley or wheat as your plant?  Lots of water, sunlight and nutritious soil and we’ll just have to wait and see.

Overall it was a really fun filled and informative day.  Special thanks to all the parents who came on the trip with us, we really appreciate your help!
